Have you updated your WordPress sites to PHP 8.1 yet?
In case you haven’t heard. PHP 7.4 and all PHP 7.x versions are no longer supported. That means less secure and less functionality. You can still use them in the meanwhile if you don’t mind security vulnerabilities, decreased functionality and potentially compatibility issues. Over time they won’t be supported by WordPress core, themes and plugins and you’ll be forced to upgrade anyway.
Upgrading to PHP 8.1 also brings a slight performance boost. And therefore we recommend it to all our clients!
How do you update?
- First update all your WordPress core, themes, and plugins.
- Go to your cPanel > MultiPHP > select all your sites, choose PHP 8.1 from the dropdown and [APPLY].
- If a site breaks, you can simply switch back to the previous PHP 7.4 to fix the issue. Then check the error log to see which theme or plugin was causing the issue. Then remove it, or update it, or use a replacement, and then switch over again.
- Site note…if you notice any themes or plugins having compatibility issues with PHP 8.1, it’s a good time to reconsider whether you’re using a reputable product. 😉
We highly recommend you upgrade to PHP 8.1 asap!
